The successful candidate will receive training, at a laboratory located abroad in Hefei, Anhui Province, China) in the necessary research skills: 1) isolation rat livers, liver perfusion under varying conditions, pathology (tissue sections, HE staining, IHC, and senescent cell, apoptotic cell, and preoperative cell detection in tissues. Inclusive in this instruction is the operation of myriad of laboratory instruments, 2) proper methods to transplant livers into animals such as rats and pigs, 3) use of a micro-injection system for altering xenografts to allografts by integrating a foreign genome. Further efforts will be required to evaluate the new allograft liver function in vivo.
